Overview
uSampler is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle data when you use the uSampler Chrome extension.
Data Collection and Storage
Audio Data
- What we collect: Audio recordings captured from browser tabs
- How we use it: Audio data is processed locally on your device for sampling, editing, and export functionality
- Storage: Audio data is stored locally in your browser using Chrome’s local storage API
- Transmission: Audio data is never transmitted to external servers. All processing occurs entirely on your device.
Settings and Preferences
- What we collect: User preferences, export settings, and session data
- How we use it: To maintain your preferences and restore your work sessions
- Storage: Stored locally in Chrome’s local storage API
- Transmission: Settings are never transmitted to external servers
Extension Usage
- What we collect: No usage analytics or telemetry data is collected
- Transmission: No data of any kind is sent to external servers
Permissions
uSampler requires the following permissions:
- tabCapture: Required to capture audio from browser tabs
- activeTab: Required to interact with the current browser tab
- tabs: Required for tab management during audio capture
- windows: Required to open the extension popup window
- downloads: Required to save exported audio files to your device
- storage: Required to save your settings and session data locally
Data Security
- All audio processing occurs locally on your device
- No data is transmitted to external servers
- Data is stored using browser-provided secure storage APIs
- We do not have access to your audio recordings or settings
Third-Party Services
uSampler does not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. All functionality is self-contained within the extension.
Third-Party Libraries
uSampler uses open-source libraries for audio processing. See Third-Party Licenses for full details. Notable:
- LAME (via lamejs) for MP3 encoding — LGPL-3.0 license
- All libraries run locally; none transmit data externally
Data Deletion
You can delete your data at any time by:
- Clearing extension data through Chrome’s extension management page
- Uninstalling the extension (this removes all locally stored data)
Children’s Privacy
uSampler is not intended for users under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy and updating the “Last Updated” date.
